"The He Man Gusto Club"

Bob, Ron Pihl, Russ Maynard, and Al Cantrell were all unofficial members of a mythical club referred to as "The Gusto Club" or as Ron remembers it, the "He Man Gusto Club". I believe for me this was going on in the late '70s or early '80s. I was allowed in the club, around then, because I crawled through the culvert under the road in front of Pine Crick Cabins. Naked. In the middle of winter. As I recall Bob and probably Ron Dilg put me up to it, but there were others around that table at Pine Creek that night, but I can't remember who.

I thought I'd post this to encourage others to come forward. Also there might be photos that relate to this "club" which was as much about a state of mind from that era as much as an actual club. Ron Pihl is in search of one photo of Bob in his long johns, standing in winter snow in front of Dick Dillof's sheepherder wagon, playing the banjo. We'll be posting that one here for sure, if it turns up!

Bob's Photo Album: Available Soon!

A Note from Al:

Laya scanned and sent about 100 photos in October of 2010, and I apologize, I am only now uploading them. I tried without success to get the largest attachment downloaded, gave up and got distracted, never got back to it until now.

I finally figured out that the attachment was too large for my Yahoo account, so I'm hoping Laya will resend them in two smaller attachments soon!

Meanwhile I uploaded what I could in 4 separate posts, in the order Laya sent them, with her titles. They're great shots, Bob looking about as healthy and happy as I've ever seen him.

If you click once, the photos get larger, click twice they fill the screen!

Happy New Year! Dec. 30, 2010

Laya's Photos, Part 5 "Bob, My Hero"

Bob was  so different, totally uncomplicated with things, juming into every water for swimming,
lit fires in the pouring rain after a long day of canoeing...
